Is it just me, or does it seem like January is the longest month of the year? It’s like as soon as the New Year starts we’re stuck in this never-ending lull where everything has just begun, but nothing has really started yet. Now that it has finally come to a long-awaited end, I can share with you my January favorites! I got a few fun things to try out around Christmas and some of them have made it to my favorites list so let’s check them out, shall we?
Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel: I’ve been using this little guy in the shower and it really seems to have helped detoxify my skin, especially after all the sugar from the holidays. My skin feels a lot smoother and free of little bumps. It has a strange jelly texture and doesn’t foam very much when I rub my hands together, but it definitely does a great job of making my skin feel clean.
The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow mask: This mask is so intense. I mentioned it in my 5 Favorite Masks to De-stress post because it’s seriously amazing for a pick-me-up at the end of the week. As a writer and blogger sitting in front of a computer for a good chunk of the day can leave me feeling stiff and my skin congested, especially if I end up snacking a little too much. This strips all the toxins and oily buildup from my skin and leaves it feeling super clean and refreshed.
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm: An old, but beloved favorite. I can’t talk enough about this balm. It cleans away my makeup without pulling at my skin or stinging my eyes and rinses off easily. It doesn’t leave a strange oily residue after and makes my skin feel silky soft. It’s all around an amazing product and will forever be on my holy grail list.
L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara in Brown: I’ll go on the record and say I’m not a fan of plastic mascara brushes. I find them to be too pointy and constantly irritating my eyes. So when I saw this mascara had a plastic brush I wasn’t hoping for much out of it. This mascara is amazing though. The brush is thin so I can really get at my roots and lift the lashes up without even using a curler. The formula a little wet and I’ve only ever found it in a standard finish, but it makes my lashes look so natural and doesn’t slip off in the rain. I’d definitely rank this in my top 5 mascaras.
Quacker Pop Cracker Chips: As a writer, I tend to always need something to snack on. I don’t know what it is, but having something to munch on really gets the gears turning. However, I want to start making healthy choices this year and not consume so much refined sugar. These chips have definitely been a savior in that. They come in sweet and savory flavors, all low in calories and sugar. They’ve been my go-to snack this month for sure. I’ve even converted everyone in my house to love them too. Definitely worth trying out in place of potato chips.
Matcha Powder: Continuing with the theme of watching my sugar, I’ve been trying to make more specialty drinks at home. I love getting chais and green teas from Starbucks, but they really add up and when I looked at the ingredients I was shocked to find at least 47 grams of sugar for each grande I would get. No thank you. Getting the matcha powder allows me to be in control of the sweetener. I’ve really been loving almond milk matcha lattes with some maple syrup while I work on posts. Switching from refined to natural sugars have really made a difference in how I feel on the day-to-day. If you like green teas or chais try to do them at home to save money and tailor them to your tastes.
That’s all I have for this month, guys. Hope you enjoyed seeing some of my favorites from the month and I look forward to coming back with more. These posts aren’t always consistent as I tend to be a creature of habit and stick to the same things. Also it gets pricey trying new products all the time. I love beauty and skincare, though, so I do enjoy these posts.
